The Hive at Kew Gardens
We have recently started a new project at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew refurbishing the steel framework that supports The Hive structure. Intercity are shotblasting the steel framework, removing the old paint, and applying a new hard-wearing industrial coating.
The Hive is a geometric aluminium lattice installation featuring an immersive sight and sound experience triggered by bee activity. The Hive was initially created as the centrepiece of the UK Pavilion at the Milan Expo in 2015. As the structure was originally only intended for the 2015 Milan Expo, the steel support structure was not painted with longevity in mind, so the original coating needs replacing for something much more permanent now that the Hive is situated in London for the foreseeable future.
The team at Intercity Contractors take our carbon footprint very seriously. We are constantly updating our plant and machinery onto the latest models to be as eco-friendly as possible within and have as small an environmental impact as possible. We are using one of our new compressors that are specifically designed for low emission outputs on this project at Kew Gardens.
